DrIsmail Hameed Mallick

Mr Ismail Mallick is a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon. His NHS practice is based at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and he consults privately at the Bournemouth Nuffield Hospital. He trained in General Surgery and Colorectal Surgery in Yorkshire and Humberside. He was awarded a PhD at the University College London for his thesis on Ischaemia Reperfusion Injury of the Intestine and Strategies to prevent this.

He completed a two year Advanced Colorectal Surgical Fellowship at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, USA and then was appointed as a consultant at Royal Bournemouth Hospital NHS Trust. He has continued to develop his interests and expertise as a consultant. He has additionally been involved in pioneering new surgical techniques aimed at improving the outcome for patients. He is a JAG accredited Endoscopist and is a trainer. He has a wide range of experience in the management of colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel and diverticular disease, coloproctological conditions (fissure, fistula, pilonidal sinus and haemorrhoids) and pelvic floor problems including rectal prolapse.

In addition to his surgical commitments, Mr Mallick has a strong interest in surgical teaching and surgical research, in particular investigating minimally invasive treatment for rectal prolapse. He is the Clinical Lead for teaching Surgery for Final Year MBBS students from Southampton University who are attached to Royal Bournemouth Hospital. He regularly teaches at the FRCS Christie Course at Manchester which prepares surgeons to obtain FRCS, the highest qualification in surgery in the UK. He is also an examiner for the European Board of Surgery Section in Colon and Rectal Surgery. He is also the Clinical Lead for Audit and Quality Assurance in Surgery at Royal Bournemouth Hospital. Recently, Mr Mallick has been appointed as Visiting Fellow at Bournemouth University. Mr Mallick has 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals and is frequently invited to speak at both national and international meetings. His work has been extensively cited in leading journals, textbooks, conferences and media articles.

In 2018, Mr Mallick has been awarded the prestigious Fellowship of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons for his services (FASCRS). He has also been invited by the Ministry of Health in Serbia to mentor the Surgeons to enable them to perform laparoscopic colorectal surgery along with Prof. Parvaiz.
